The Doofuzz Dudes and the Space Spiders
“I think it might have gone somewhere else,” said Tom hopefully.
“It doesn’t matter, does it? We’re still trapped in its web.” Huon nervously twiddled with a lock of his hair. “Who wants to volunteer to go outside and see what’s happening?”
Tom laughed heartily. “Now that really is a practical joke! Why don’t I go and grab the spider in a cosmic spider hold?”
“All right, laugh if you like,” Huon replied grumpily. “We’re all prisoners together.” Toby stared out the window, trying to see what was happening.
“Valleys of Venus, this web stretches a really long way! I can see at least ten space craft hanging from it. They’re wrapped in cocoons.” He shivered. “It’s like we’re all part of a giant necklace.”
He could see space craft of all shapes and sizes trapped in the sticky web. There were oval UFOs with numerous windows, long rockets and even square space ships dangling helplessly in cocoons.
“Oh, oh, I saw the spider again,” William shrieked. “Look! It’s spinning a cocoon around us, too.”
As the Dudes stared out the window in horror, they saw a set of gigantic black hairy fangs moving past. This was followed by a hairy black leg, and lastly by the underside of the spider’s enormous abdomen. Toby stared in horror as the spider ran backward and forward over their little craft, weaving it into a giant cocoon.
“Sandy, what are we going to do?” he begged. “Hmm,” muttered Sandy. “The Space Spider’s silk web turns metal into a soup. It takes some time, but I guess the spider can wait.”
“Oh, I think I’m going to be sick!” William moaned. “I don’t want to be eaten by a spider!”
